When a tenancy ends there is rarely any reliable record of how many keys exist. Copies get cut over the course of a let, handed to partners, cleaners and friends, and very few come back. Changing the locks between tenancies is the only way to know who has access.

The most useful thing we do for landlords is rarely the lock change itself — it is setting the property up so the next change is simpler. A keyed-alike set means a tenant carries one key rather than three, which cuts the number of copies made. A restricted system means copies cannot be cut at all without your say-so, so the property does not accumulate unknown keys over successive lets.
For flats in converted houses, the communal entrance is usually the weaker point rather than the individual flat door. It takes far heavier use, it is often the oldest lock in the building, and every former tenant of every flat has held a key to it at some point. Where a building is under one ownership, rekeying the entrance alongside the flat is worth doing.
Most landlord policies require a BS3621 five-lever mortice lock or equivalent on final exit doors. If you are not certain what is fitted at a property we can check and tell you, which is generally cheaper than finding out at claim stage.
